Earthbeat is working on ways to help small scale gold miners build-up sustainable sources of income and to restore the ecosystem. On the other hand it raises awareness for sustainably sourced gold. In this context, the Earthbeat Foundation initiates and supports projects which are in harmony with nature and humanity. The goal is to participate in the development of sustainable solutions and to communicate these interdisciplinarily.
Earthbeat Foundation’s mission is to promote ethical and environmentally responsible gold mining. We raise awareness about the dangerous conditions gold miners are faced with, such as being in daily contact with toxic chemicals like mercury. Collapsing shafts, precarious working conditions with no protective gear (see picture) and human rights violations (like child labour) are common problems. The environmental damage is another fatal consequence of small scale gold mining.
With our projects we support income generating alternatives to gold mining in order to improve the miners’ living conditions. In close cooperation with gold miners, Earthbeat Foundation develops sustainable solutions and aims to raise public awareness about this issue. We address everybody along the supply chain, from miners, over distributors and producers, all the way to the consumer. In this context, we initiate and support projects, which are based on respect for nature and human rights.
ALTERNATIVES TO GOLD MINING
The goal is to come together and find better and safer ways for the gold miners to make an income. Our questions are: What business – besides mining – is already being done, what processes can be improved, which innovations can be made in an already existing structure? From that point we can start something new and help people that often don’t have a choice, to shape their own future.
